Animated Short of the Day: “Inspired, in equal measures, by Hurricane Katrina, Buster Keaton, The Wizard of Oz, and a love for books, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is a story of people who devote their lives to books and books who return the favor.”
Co-directed by William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg, Morris Lessmore is one of five films nominated for an Oscar in the Best Animated Short Film category.

One of my favorite videos of all time!!
Ferris Bueller Sequel of the Day: So the Ferris Bueller “sequel” that was teased last week has been unveiled in full, and it’s… an ad for Honda starring Matthew Broderick as himself.
But it does pay homage to Ferris Bueller, which is something? And it does do a great job at selling something: The certainty that no one should ever try to make a Ferris Bueller sequel.

Street Art of the Day: Spokane busker Bryson Andres employs an electric violin and a loop pedal in his kickass cover of OneRepublic’s “Secrets.”

You’re Doing It Wrong of the Day: A woman in Seattle has drawn ire from multiple sides over her “gay marriage” to a century-old warehouse.
Babylonia Aivaz says she wanted to protest the building’s scheduled demolition by “show[ing] the building how much I love it, how much I love community space and how much I love this neighborhood.”
Her decision to refer to the ceremony, which took place yesterday, as a “gay marriage” has angered some local residents.
“Her saying it’s a gay marriage sets the community back with Christians and politicians and gives them a chance to say, ‘See, we told you, they’re going to want to marry everything if we give them the opportunity,’” said Johnny McCollum-Blair who was in attendence yesterday. “Having compassion against something you love, I understand, but to call it a gay union is irresponsible.”
Aivaz insists she is merely trying to draw attention to the neighborhood’s gentrification, but didn’t comment on how she concluded the building was female.
Sound Of The Times of the Day: Cool-stuff-maker Chris Crutchfield, creator of the “modern musical” Digitals, provides some context for his short film:
One day I got an email, an sms, a phone call, a Facebook message and two tweets all within about 5 seconds of one another. This video is a re-manifestation of my brain’s interpretation of that event. #trustory
Vimeo community manager Sam Morrill chimes in: “If only it actually sounded that good.”
